The most badass thing I’ve done in Motorsports.

Went to Norton va for the SCCA Flag Rock hillclimb with good intentions but apparently the engine had other plans. After slaving away the week before to get it back together after blowing the head gasket at VIR with gears and gasoline I got the motor running and felt great. I got two good runs in Saturday but at the end of run two the car severally overheated. After some diagnostic we realized the head gasket must have popped again. We ruminated about what together and everyone around me was so willing to help and wanted to put the car back on the course we came up with a plan and decided to start tearing into it. Once we got the head off we realized the dowel pin hadn’t seated and didn’t let the head torque all the way to the block so we had to call in some favors. @apti2de and @esteemmotorsports came in clutch with a spare motor an hour away and pulled the dowel pins for me off that motor. We measured the cut ring gasket I had and it seemed reasonable to put the gasket back on based on some measurements so with the team assembled and a plan we started thrashing on the car. It wasn’t until 2am we got the car running again and everyone was exhausted. Next morning after about 4 hours of sleep we got the car started , I did a pull down the street to confirm it was holding pressure and we decided to send it. I sent it up the first run and it held beautifully and I went a second faster than the day before. On the second run I shaved off two more seconds but then it started over heating again. So we noticed this time it wasn’t as bad and just decided to put water in the coolant and make a pass since it didn’t over heating again until the end of the run. Ultimately the car was down on power and we couldn’t go faster after two more tries but damn….this was the most badass thing I’ve done in Motorsports so far. Thrash on the broken car to 2 am and then come back the next day. And guess what the hard work paid off because our time on Sunday was good enough for third and that held true for the rest of the day!

Overall it was such a great weekend getting to over come adversery and get to bring. Home hard ware !
